As many of you already know, I was, until recently, the Vice President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) alongside being a Director of Scholes CA.
However, I’m honoured to announce that, as of last month’s AGM, I’ll be taking on the role of Deputy President of the institute!
Working alongside my colleagues, President Alison Cornwell and Vice President, David Cruickshank, we are dedicated to developing and growing ICAS’ vision, goals, and objectives.
As you can imagine, I am absolutely thrilled to take on the role of Deputy President and I’d like to thank everyone at Scholes CA who has supported me on the journey.
My agenda as Deputy President
As Deputy President, I want to engage deeply with our members and students, especially as we advance our 2030 strategy.
This strategy includes significant changes to education and introduces a flexible new model tailored for both students and employers.
Additionally, I am committed to supporting the ICAS Foundation’s vital work.
The Foundation is instrumental in promoting social mobility, and ethnic and gender diversity among university students studying accountancy and finance.
These students benefit from mentoring, financial aid, and opportunities for work experience which goes a long way to my personal goal of increasing social mobility opportunities for young people.
The CA qualification represents the pinnacle of accounting excellence, extending far beyond the basic curriculum, and we are keen to continue this.
As Deputy President, I wish to see ICAS continue to shape the business leaders of tomorrow through its vital work.
In partnership with Alison and David – as well as the entire ICAS Executive Team – I am eager to navigate the challenges that our industry is currently facing and ensure the continued success of ICAS.
What this means for Scholes CA’s clients
Whilst I am immensely proud of my work at ICAS, I want to reassure you that my role will not detract from the exceptional service that Scholes CA provides.
If anything, I believe that my roles as both Vice President, and now Deputy President, directly feed into the advice, tax planning and services we provide.
Through ICAS, I am constantly exposed to fresh ideas, different perspectives, and industry leading individuals – all of whom provide value that can be integrated into the advice we give.
As a leading figure in the institute, I hear about legislation changes and Government policy straight from the horse’s mouth, giving me a great insight into the regulation and policy challenges of the future.
In short, being Deputy President helps me to help you.
It allows me (and all the team at Scholes CA) to continue providing expert advice on all your relevant queries, tax questions and business issues.
